Article Processing Charges (APCs) and Open Access Publishing: Open Access Publication

Improving the existing guide

Open Access Publishing

Open Access (OA) publications reduce permission requirements and eliminate price barriers for readers. OA allows access for researchers, teachers, journalists, policymakers, and the general public without a subscription. Many studies demonstrate that OA literature receives more citations than subscription publications.

Open Access Publication

Open access is a publishing model for scholarly communication that makes research information available to readers at no cost, as opposed to the traditional subscription model in which readers have access to scholarly information by paying a subscription (usually via libraries).

Benefits of Open Access Publications

  • Promotes Impact and Citations.
  • Increase Modes of Availability.
  • Increase Author and Institution Visibility.
  • Open Access reduces publishing costs.
