CPUT Libraries e-books

This guide focuses on accessing our e-books according to type. The different types are single titles, ebook collections and e-books in Databases. There are specific rules which have to be understood when you choose an e-book for use.

What are e-books

An e-book is a book in digital format. It allows one to read it on a variety of devices like a personal computer, cell phone, ipad etc

Advantages to using ebooks:  they are accessible from anywhere at any time; they do not get lost or stolen; in most cases many people are able to access the same title at the same time. In most cases, the text is searchable.  There are no fines with ebooks.

Some of the e-Books that we have subscribed to or purchased have restrictions on accessibility and use.  These DRM (Digital Rights Management) restrictions determine who may access the eBook, how it can be accessed or used, or whether it can be downloaded or printed.  Free ebook readers are often required for downloading ebooks to your device.  The free Adobe Digital Editions reader is the one that you are most likely to use.  You can download it from: https://www.adobe.com/solutions/ebook/digital-editions/download.html

You can choose your download format for most ebooks - PDF or EPUB. Books in PDF retain the look and feel of the print book. EPUB allows you to resize the text of the book, which is helpful on a tablet, phone, or other smaller device.  This creates a better reading experience
